The AEDC provides educators with a common language to discuss what’s working well for children in their area. Data can also show where development can be strengthened with quality early childhood programs and environments.

The five AEDC domains provide insights into the learning and developmental needs of young children at a community level. AEDC data is a useful predictor of children’s future development and learning, helping show how well early childhood programs are working in communities.

The five AEDC domains provide a common language for early childhood educators to discuss children’s development with families, schools and communities. This common language can help early childhood educators gain a shared understanding of each other’s practice and developmental vulnerability, to help support a smooth transition to school for students.
