Franklin Primary School (TAS)

Data-informed playgroups to empower families.

Summary

Franklin Primary School is one of Tasmania’s oldest primary schools, located in the Huon Valley.

AEDC results highlighted developmental vulnerabilities in social competence, emotional maturity and communication skills, and general knowledge.

A teacher running an existing playgroup, invited a local parent to attend a parenting program aimed at supporting parents as active participants in their child’s learning. It centres on developing common understandings and language, wellbeing, relationships, language and literacy to help build parent/practitioner relationships. This helped share the playgroup’s successes among local parents, emphasising the importance of play-based learning to promote growth.
