Kingston Primary School (WA)

Supporting local families by strengthening early intervention and prevention initiatives.

Summary

Kingston Primary is a rapidly growing school in Australind, WA. Opening in 2009 with nearly 250 students, enrolments increased to 800 in 2018. The area has limited community facilities.

The number of children developmentally vulnerable on one or more domains significantly improved between 2009 and 2015, which was reflected in the School Profile results.

This was the result of the school appointing a Deputy Principal to focus on early childhood, who implemented these key actions:

  • two playgroups

  • participating in the local Early Years Network

  • facilitating a Memorandum of Understanding between local government departments and child health clinics

  • free parent workshops

  • home-school transition programs in partnership with parents

  • hiring various allied health professionals.
