Jervis Bay School (ACT)

Facilitating cultural safety and connection to Country.

Summary

Jervis Bay School is a community school located in the Booderee National Park on the outskirts of the HMAS Creswell Naval College Grounds. It is part of the Australian Capital Territory and surrounded by the Shoalhaven region of New South Wales.

The AEDC results for the Jervis Bay community are not publicly available due to privacy, given the few children in the area participating. However, the Jervis Bay School uses their data to track changes in children’s development over time.

The school employed many strategies to improve preschool student outcomes. Significantly, cultural safety and connection to Country and community is an essential component of the curriculum, with an Aboriginal Education Officer being allocated a significant role facilitating art, dance and on-Country learning.
